And once again we face that "C" word.

We request your prayers about a health issue I (Jim Terral) (James R. Terral, III) am facing.

In May of 2020 It was discovered that I had two aggressive types of Prostate cancer. After consultation and prayer, I decided to have my prostate removed. I received excellent care from Dr. Boban Mirza and the marvelous staff at KU Med in Kansas City. I am pleased to say that all subsequent tests say I am free of prostate cancer. The present need is about another cancer.

Some time back many of you were aware that upon doctors’ advice and after scan’s following what I thought was a gallbladder attack I chose to go to KU Med Center I went in to have my Gall Bladder removed. I shared then that they did not remove my gall bladder for a number of reasons but I now believe they feared damaging my liver in the process. I did not share with everyone that they discovered visually that I had a fatty liver with what appeared to be non-alcoholic-stage 4 Cirrhosis. I was informed that this almost always will lead to cancerous lesions in the liver. We have been following up with local doctors with blood work, scans and most recently an MRI which revealed that I had two lesions. The larger one was clearly cancerous but was inside the liver. We immediately contacted KU MED CENTER, sent the MRI to them and they scheduled treatment as soon as possible. On Monday December second, they performed what is known as TACE (Trans-arterial Chemoembolization) This cuts off the blood supply to the tumors and also inserts each lesion with a strong Chemo. In a month I will return to KU for another MRI to determine if this treatment was successful. If not, successful it can be treated again in the same manner.

On Dec 16 I will have labs here in ours home lab to monitor how my liver has responded to the "insult" of the treatment. Then on the 27th we will journey back to Kansas City Medical Center (KU) where I will have a ct scan, and on the 29th an MRI. While the results are often posted on our portal once available, our actual visit (and more labs) will not be until January 8th. At that time, if all looks good, we will begin the process of scans every three months.
